A tropical island paradise steeped in history and culture
Set off the coast of East Africa, Zanzibar is a Tanzanian archipelago with magnificent coral reefs, palm fringed beaches and amazingly white sandy beaches. On the main island, Unguja which is referred to as Zanzibar, you'll find Stone Town, a historic trade centre where the Swahili and Islamic influences are evident in the way of life and architecture.
Zanzibar is also home to Jozani Chwaka Bay National Park, the island's only National Park which is home to the Zanzibar leopard, bush babies, Zanzibar red colobus, Skyes monkey as well as 50 species of butterfly and 40 bird species. The park is also home to the sea grass beds of the Chwaka Bay that are fringed with mangrove forests and are an important breeding ground for a variety of marine creatures, including many open sea fish species.
The main attraction is of course, the island's many resorts which are set on long stretches of breathtaking beaches, offering guests a variety of watersports and activities including snorkelling, scuba diving, kite surfing, windsurfing, boating and more.
Great as a stand alone vacation destination or the end to a perfect safari, Zanzibari is definitely a place you want to visit.
