Sibuya Game Lodge
Sibuya is one of South Africa’s most unique Safari destinations. From its Reception near the Ocean, it is unique in that it has more navigable river than any other game reserve in South Africa. Consequently, as a birding destination it is hard to beat: there are nearly 400 different species. This breathtakingly beautiful game reserve is sanctuary to an abundance of diverse wildlife from elephants to otters, including the Big Five. Sibuya proudly boasts two luxurious Eco-Destinations – Forest and River Camp – which, both being run almost exclusively on Solar Power do not make allowance for Wi-Fi, air-con, fans, hairdryers etc. Guests are invited to relax and enjoy the simplicity of life without these mod-cons. We highly recommend that guests requiring these extra features choose rather to stay at our secluded and luxurious Bush Lodge which has grid electricity, so caters to these needs.
We pride ourselves on our delicious fresh, healthy buffet-style meals served el fresco or in one of the beautiful lapas.
Sibuya’s main Reception, situated in the holiday village of Kenton-on-Sea in the Eastern Cape Province, is about 130 kms from Port Elizabeth.
The unique ‘Sibuya Experience’ starts immediately with a 45 minute boat transfer up the Kariega Estuary to River Camp, Forest Camp or Bush Lodge. Leaving the beach, turtles, dolphins and whales might be seen near the River mouth. All three secluded venues nestle in beautiful indigenous forest and have been constructed in an environmentally conscious manner. Bush Lodge is situated just outside the main Reserve.
Rooms - Forest Camp
Perfectly situated on the banks of the Kariega River Estuary but tucked unobtrusively into the indigenous bush, Forest Camp offers a blend of essential comforts and warm, charming style. Richly coloured local textiles, in shades of rust and burnt orange, are used throughout in support of the regions weaving community.
The lush, sub-tropical vegetation ensures a high density of wildlife and guarantees one of the best game-viewing experiences in the country.
Forest Camp, with its long wooden walkways meandering through pristine thicket, has eight secluded tents with unique en-suite bathrooms and comfortable king-sized beds – complete with luxury linen and furnishings. Four of the eight tents are equipped with a pull-out sleeper divan – available if necessary for a child sharing with parents. A cozy fireplace in each tent adds a personal touch and provides comfort on the chillier nights. Children over the age of 12 are welcome.
Designed with a light footprint to protect the surrounding riverine environment, the Camp affords views of game on both banks of the river and makes an ideal venue for weddings, conferences and small functions.
Rooms - River Camp
Tucked into a small forest on the river bank, each tented room has been designed with its own unique layout in order to avoid felling trees and to protect as much of the site as possible. A light and airy design lets nature’s sights and sounds flood into the generously proportioned guest areas, creating a sense of oneness with Nature. Ground level pathways and large fold-out sofa beds make River Camp particularly well-suited for those with children sharing with their parents. Located on an ancient floodplain where an oxbow will one day form, the Camp affords views of the river from its secluded decks.
